Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much are the home, land and permits going to cost?

The total cost is up to you! We have 3 different standard packages for pricing on the home each with their own allowances included for customization, or we can customize a package based on what you are looking for in your home. On average the land makes up 20% – 30% of the total home cost. Permits are always included in any of the standard packages.

2. How long will my home take to build?

We usually plan 14 – 16 months from the first meeting to completion. This includes about 2 months of designing your home and finalizing blueprints. Then a month for engineering, financing and permits. Finally, the home is ready for your family about 12 months from the day we start. Depending on the size and location of your home it may be different. Ask us for details.

3. How do I customize my home?

We make customizations easy! After the home plans are finished, we introduce your interior designer. You will tour our showrooms with them to make all the custom selections for your home. We will confirm these in change orders showing what you’ve selected. If you are struck by an idea during construction talk to us! We can shift gears during the build to ensure the final home is exactly what you envisioned.

4. Do I need a contingency fund?

Customizing your home is what makes building fun. We recommend a contingency fund of 5% for most homes. This gives you the flexibility and convenience to customize the home without having to pay cash for these customizations. The best part is if you don’t use your contingency fund then it doesn’t get included in your final mortgage saving you money.

5. Do you offer a Warranty?

Absolutely! BC Homes supports our clients with an industry leading 1, 2, 6 warranty. The first year we cover most problems with the house to ensure you have peace of mind. For 2 years we cover issues related to your HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing. Then for a full 6 years we cover problems with the structure of your home such as foundation movement or cracks in walls.

6. Do I need a realtor?

No you don’t. Our team of experienced home building experts will be happy to walk you through the process. If you do have a realtor already they are always welcome.

7. Do you build pools?

Yes! We build pools and pool houses that are designed to match the quality, craftsmanship and customization of your home. Make the pool an integrated part of your home, and maximize your indoor-outdoor space.

8. Can you build on my lot?

9. Who will I communicate with throughout the project?

Our team is here for you. Your project manager will be your main point of contact throughout the build and will provide you with weekly updates on progress.
